1. Introduction

Quividi provides customers with a way to analyze the direction of foot traffic in front of a camera. Dubbed "Compass", this system can enrich their Digital Out of Home (DOOH) or Digital Signage network, with 2 important metrics: the traffic direction in relation to the camera, and the time spent in a given region.

Note: Compass requires that VidiReports operates with the Footfall algorithm.

    2. Compass charts Glossary

We offer 7 charts that illustrate traffic and distance data:

  • Compass Wind Rose – This chart focus on traffic direction - In the exemple below, the green arrow means that 14.6% of the foot traffic is going toward the camera, 16.8% is going toward and to its right, and 16.6% of traffic is going away from the camera. If the camera was on top of the screen, most of the traffic flow would be directly in front of it.

  • Compass Dwell Regions – The chart illustrates the amount of time people stayed in each distance region, expressed in percentages. In the exemple below, 3.1% of the total presence time was spent less than two meters from the screen, while 80.1% was spent between two and six meters.
Note that the distance thresholds (2 meters, 6 meters) can not be edited in AMP dashboards.
The distance thresholds can be set in the Navigator dashboards (more information here).

  • Compass Impression by distance zone across Average week and days – Those two charts illustrate the average presence time spent in each region, by hour or by day. Both charts can be switched between Absolute and Relative data.

  • Compass Impression by locations and distance zone – This chart ranks the top 20 locations per impression, and also indicates their distance and range distribution.

  • Compass Effective Impression by locations – This chart ranks the top 20 locations per impression, and also indicates the effective OTS. The Effective OTS filters out all traffic going away from the screen (ie the 3 directions in red in the compass charts), and will always be lower than the total OTS. The number thus represents the number of people that were in a position to see the screen during their path in front of the camera.

  • Compass Sum of effective Impression by locations – This chart displays the top 10 locations per effective impression.

 3. Adding Compass charts in AMP Dashboards

To add Compass charts to an existing AMP dashboard, click on the “+” button at the bottom of an AMP dashboard, select the "Audience Behavior" catégorie, then "Distance and Direction":

    4. Compass and Camera Focal Distance

Compass relies on the estimation of distance between the camera and the watchers. In order to achieve this, you need to  calibrate your camera. Please refer to the following links to do so:

Once you have the focal distance of your cameras, please contact help@quividi.com and we will ingest those in Vidicenter. The changes to the charts will be retroactive.

   5. Exporting Compass data

Go into Charts / Export and select data type = Compass

The delivered file includes the following columns

  • location_id: unique numeric identifier of the data source.
  • period_start: starting date and time for data aggregation.
  • ots_count: number of OTS counted for this segment.
  • effective_ots_count: number of OTS counted for this segment, considering only east, west, south, south_west and south_east.
  • presence_total: presence time in seconds.
  • far: presence time ratio spent in far range.
  • mid_range: presence time ratio spent in mid range.
  • near: presence time ratio spent in near range.
    Note the sum of far + mid_range + near = 1.000
  • north: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the north.
  • north_east: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the north east.
  • north_west: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the north west.
  • south: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the south.
  • south_east: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the south east.
  • south_west: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the south west.
  • west: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the west.
  • east: percentage of the ots_count that was detected as going to the east.
Note the sum of all above 8 direction percentages = 1.000
